How To Restore Federal Fiscal Sanity: The State Legislatures Hold The Key

Where Do We Stand In The States' Campaign For A Balanced Budget Amendment?

To date, 32 states have adopted resolutions calling for a limited convention under Article V to propose a Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment.

A scare campaign by opponents persuaded three states (Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana) to rescind these resolutions.  There were hasty actions with little opportunity for public debate.  Many concerned citizens and Legislators are working to restore these three states’ resolutions.

Our opponents have tried to rescind most of the 32 state resolutions.  Whenever there has been a full hearing, their efforts have failed and the State Legislature has maintained its Balanced Budget Amendment convention call resolution.

Several other State Legislatures are moving toward adoption of an Article V resolution for a Balanced Budget Amendment and convention call.

We are within striking distance of the 34 state resolutions needed to break the deadlock and compel Congress to propose a Balanced Budget Amendment or call a limited convention to propose only this one amendment.
